 July 11 Painting with Wool (Needle Felting) 10am - noonAbout Painting with Wool Fun, Creative and Relaxing!!! Easy enough for a beginner, but still enjoyable for an experienced felter. This workshop is designed to inspire & ignite your creative side and give you the confidence to enjoy the process of creating something beautiful.
Join us in this exciting workshop and learn the basics of Needle Felting or how to “paint” and “sculpt” with wool fibers. You will learn a variety of needle felting techniques, create your very own original piece, and go home with all the materials you need to continue felting! These techniques can then be used to create many different items including 3-D sculptures, wool paintings, jewelry, ornaments, embellishments and more. In addition to basic skills, we will explore the special qualities of wool and other fibers, and more advanced skills such as blending colors, layering, perspective, and more.

 July 25 Dyeing Yarn 9am - noonHave you always wanted to learn how to dye your own yarns, fibers or fabrics? In this class, you will learn the basics of acid dyeing on protein fibers, to get gorgeous colors that are unique to you! We will be learning about the yarn dyeing process and different techniques to achieve different dyeing effects. Each participant will leave the workshop with practical skills for home dyeing projects and three hand-dyed “mini-skeins” of yarn to use in their own creations.

This traditional embroidery technique has been around for centuries and has recently come back in a big and modern way in the crafting community. Due to the wonderful detail you can create, punch needle embroidery is often called painting with thread. It is a form of embroidery worked with a special punch needle that creates different sized loops on the front of the fabric. This craft is easy to learn, gives quick results and makes stunning textile art.  Aug 1 Needle Felt in a teacup 9am - noonIn this fun workshop you will learn the basics of needle felting while creating a charming fairy garden, village, or scene inside a teacup. These can be used decoratively or as a pincushion. Needle felting is a fun, creative and inexpensive fiber craft in which wool fleece or roving is sculpted using special barbed needles. You will learn a variety of needle felting techniques, create your very own original piece, and go home with all the materials you need to continue felting! This project has many elements and is fast paced but still beginner friendly.

 August 2 Fiber Processing 9am - 1pmLearn how to skirt, clean, and wash a fleece. Then learn how to prep the fibers for spinning yarn. Students will learn the difference between picking,combing, carding and blending. We will also explore carding and blending on hand carders, a blending board and a drum carder. We will compare the hand tools to the commercial equipment in a tour of the mill. | |
